    Description

PRIMITIVE CAMPERS only - no glampers

NEW = for a fee of $12 extra (cash to host), you can have access to a 110 power outlet. For BYO fans, charging phones etc. (Not for space heaters or AC) - Host does have wifi now you can walk near his house and briefly access.

accessible only by vehicles with high clearance. There are no refunds / and no cancel policy. Please read entire description and view all photos prior to booking.

    Want to Camp Here?

Your tires could pop. You could get flooded in and have to stay a while. You'll be using an outhouse. Possible to rub shoulders - or very rough road entrance - with grumpy neighbors . Your canoe could tip over with all your gear in it. You may never be able to arrive and there will be no refund. There is only one way in and one way out. And there is no cell signal.

    Still Want to Camp here?

Read every following word or we're likely not a good fit for one another.

This story starts about 10,000 years ago. Or at least that's what the artifacts found here tell us. The following property description in the first person because this story is deeply personal to me.

This private holler (or valley) on S. Sylamore creek has been a gathering place since pre-recorded time. It has one of the largest springs in the county and the creek never runs dry. The swim hole is always deep and cool even in late August. It is healthy and full of fish and all other kinds of wildlife. The host (Hardy, pictured, AKA Hillbilly Buddha - to me) and his wife bought this property many decades ago always with the intention to have a commercial campground to share it. Hardy sincerely knows how to make everyone feel welcome and at peace. They raised their son Casey here. Today there is only one campground on it and it is where the newly pitched authentic tipi has command.

I first visited from Memphis about 14 years ago and the pull was so great, I moved here -to this holler- directly. It changed the trajectory of my life. I would have to carry my groceries over in a canoe some days because the low-water bridge was impassable. I've had more than one vehicle get totaled by flash flooding and a poor parking choice. Even though I now reside downstream, this location (and Hardy) is a touchstone to me and the greatest network of people I know. I call them family.

On any given Saturday you will NOT have the swim hole and cave to yourself - or any other day for that matter we can guarantee. Morning hours and off days and off seasons and it's all yours. Our friends and local families and young people come and frolic too. 99% depart by dark. You WILL have the campground and shallow creek frontage around the tipi to yourself. (Unless of course you make friends and invite them over). We do have a very kindly neighbor who may pass by your campground on his way to his part-time fishing shack.

Hardy is very protective of the peace and quiet and beauty of the creek bank. Driving on the gravel bar and loud music and trash left behind is strictly forbidden. But it happens and then is dealt with.

Still reading? You're going to love this hallowed ground as do we.

    Peace,
    Virginia

    Here are the booking logistics:

~ same day reservations highly discouraged. first arrival after dark not allowed - trust us on that.

~ Ivy Vacations LLC will handle the reservation system and will daily call Hardy with expectant guest details

~ 2 days prior to arrival you will be given hardy's landline #. You will be given extremely detailed arrival instructions ; turn by turn driving directions with landmarks AND the GPS coordinates.

~ It is the responsibility of the guest to arrange arrival details with Hardy - if desired by guest; He can give you skinny on water levels and forecasts, can coordinate to canoe you across, can possibly meet you at top of hill and guide you in. (return calls from him may take 24 hours). You can also just show up on your arrival day and time.

~ Electronic agreement of Rental Rules required for all confirmations.

~~ we offer free to all our guests an EV charging station. It is a tesla level 2 (and J-1772 adapter for other vehicles). It is located on the historic town square in Mtn View AR where you can likely catch some dulcimers in action while waiting on your juice.

What Ivy Vacations handles for your reservation:

~The tipi and grounds are reserved for you and you alone.

~the campground is orderly and supplied with what is seen in the pictures.

~one stack of firewood for one nights fire - either inside the tipi or in larger pit outside. More can be purchased from hardy for nominal rate on site.

~General questions answered from our 'office' team via email, text and phone.

    Recommended for guests:

~ vehicle with high clearance and decent tires. 4x4 not required. experience with narrow gravel steep hills and know-how to GO SLOW.

~ drinking water - or ask hardy where the spring is and catch your own.

~ anything food or beverage related - you bring. Charcoal grill and prep table provided.

~ toilet paper for the outhouse

~ bedding - 2 full size mattresses provided on platform beds - bring your own sheets, pillows, towels and sleeping bags

~ gear for creek; water shoes, fishing poles (catch and release small mouth bass and seasonal trout), creek chairs

~ a little cash? Hardy sometimes has some enhancements or tools you may or may not be interested in.

~ Stone county is a dry county. with exception of our beloved Gravity Brew Works 30 minutes away, you'll want to arrive in area with any spirits you want during your stay.

    FAQs

Q: Why does the airbnb listing say I can "ski in" or that there is a washing machine?
A: To list on Airbnb we had to meet a certain number of amenity count that tipis simply do not have. Had to fudge. What you see is what you get.

Q: Why don't you have a cancel policy/ offer no refunds?
A: We can't manage the weather or your vehicle specs or your adventurous spirit. This is moderate priced for the potential reward.

Q: If I can't cross bridge in my vehicle, what do I do?
A: like all of us, you leave your truck on the other side and boat across. Many of us at Ivy Vacations also live on the creek and will be able to relay if the crossing is likely questionable for a vehicle at your arrival time. Hardy has a clunker canoe that works fine or bring your own. Need some skill / know-how to go upstream out of current. Hardy will assist if coordinated with him. It is very rare that it is flooded and inaccessible by car.

Q: What if water is up so high that we can't even boat over?
A: Generally in 12 hours, flash flooding abates. Try again later.

Q: How often are there flash floods?
A: 5 times a year? No way to tell really. But for the most part a good truck can cross the bridge about 300 days out of the year.

Q: Will you rent it year round?
A: Yes! Spring is typically wettest season. Summer and fall the driest. It can snow in winter and if it's a big snow you'll be stuck until you can get out (no extra charge and oh boy that sounds like fun). There is an interior liner not shown and will be a sunken fire-pit inside soonly and should be cozy.

Q: What if there is an emergency?
A: Hardy has a portable landline and a long distance calling card. New in 2021 Hardy has wifi - you'll need to get with him about it. It's not for your use at leisure.

Q: Why won't you tell us where this actually is located?
A: Because then it wouldn't be so private and special. We'll share it 2 days prior to your arrival. It's about a 20 minute drive to Mtn View proper.

Q: What's up with the pig?
A: Her name is Pig Pig. She likes beer so hold on tight to yours.

    Q: Can I bring a tent?
A: Yes, but please no more than 8 people max onsite.

Q: Can I bring my motorcycle?
A: Are you a dual sport rider with tons of experience off road and not bringing a trailer? Maybe so. Many have tried and many have failed or bailed with their street bikes. Just don't.

some pic descriptions: scenes of rough road in. Pig Pig. Your campground. Distance from your campground to main swim hole. Hardy. Spring to catch drinking water. The amazing day we had pitching the tipi - a dream realized, outhouse - cedar shavings on floor.

This is a completely off-grid camping location. The road coming in was rough which was communicated well in the description. It was quiet and an absolutely beautiful space. The camp hosts (who live on property) were extremely hospitable and inviting. The water is beautiful (low in the ladder months of the year) and full of fish. The teepee was in good shape and our kids loved sleeping in it. There is plenty of room to set up ground tents if you have additional sleepers. The outhouse is what you would expect from an off-grid facility, but better than going in the woods. Our stay was really great and we will absolutely be back to spend more time.

This is definitely going to be a family trip that we will continue to plan each year. I highly recommend it to everyone and all those who need just a break from the world and relax with thier family.

We brought a box fan and one fan was already in the tipi, so we were very comfortable, even got chilled at night! KC was very friendly and accommodating. He offered for us to use pretty much anything on the grounds..corn hole, kayaks..even brought us some fresh garden produce that we cooked up for supper! The gravel bar was so peaceful, caught lots of fish and played in the water all day. The cave is a short walk from the tipi. Be sure to bring lights for nighttime. Our second day it rained off and on, but under the canopy of trees at the campsite, we hardly noticed. Communication via Ivy Vacations was seamless. Directions were very easy to follow. Overall it was a great, unplugged weekend. Thanks for sharing your paradise!

Hello, I’d first like to say how much we enjoyed meeting Hardy, his wife, and Casey, and what a beautiful hidden local. We’d love to return at some point, but it was to difficult a terrain for our small SUV. Going down wasn’t as scary as coming back up. It sounds like we punctured our muffler on the gravel. We understand y’all have no responsibility for damage to vehicles, but we can’t risk that happening again. We’d love to return if y’all ever offer a shuttle in and out. The other difficulty we had was transporting our camp gear to the tipi site, as the creek was to high to cross. We appreciate the use of the canoe, it was just more work than anticipated. A cart would be nice to transport the gear once we crossed the creek.

Here’s what I’d like to write as an Airbnb review. I want to make it as positive as possible because we want Hardy and his family to have success.

If you’re looking for a place off the grid, or wish for a time back when...., then this is the place for you. It’s difficult to get in and out of, but it’s very peaceful once you get settled. Hardy and his family are very respectful of your privacy but still mindful of any needs you might have. It is a very remote location and the road in can be tough to manage, so I’d recommend a 4wd vehicle just to be safe.

    Best regards,
    Michael Rupert

We loved everything about our stay! Everything is exactly as described, so be sure to read the entire description thoroughly. We were definitely glad that we opted to take a truck, as the drive in was a bit steep, as described. The view from the camping area overlooks the creek and is steps away from the cave and swimming hole. Host Harvey was very accommodating and informative. He sold us enough firewood for a very fair price. Ivy was extremely helpful and got back to me immediately every time that I texted. There are a few chairs and cooking grates for the fire pit supplied, as well as a grill. Don't forget your lanterns or lights for inside the tipi, like I did, but we enjoyed the stars and firelight and were just fine. Everything was truly beautiful and we had a wonderful stay. We will definitely return.

The tent is a great draw but the location makes it. Getting in and out is a breeze (you probably need SUV ground clearance, not sure if a car would cut it) with great directions to a remote location. We were greeted by a friendly neighbor-dog. The site is tidy and has everything you need (a swing or two, grill grates, a prep table, fire pit, string lights). Our 2.5 yr old loved the tepee and throwing rocks in the creek. We will absolutely be back.

I can’t wait to go back to the tipi I wouldn’t recommend if you don’t have a truck or don’t know how to tent camp but for those that do it was one of my favorite camping spots of all time

The kids loved the watering hole and the fire pit, and you can't beat the experience of being on someone's private land and the watering hole all to yourself!

AMAZING. I dont know where to begin , when we arrived we knew the water level was gonna be high upon arrival. We however made it across even with the yellow painted rock under water. Hardy told us how to do and off we went. Looking up the beach we could see the tipi , it was the coolest thing ever. We pulled to the back of the property to the tipi. It was so beautiful well shaded , swings , tables , grills, fire pit. They had everything you needed even down to hotdog roasting sticks. We spend most of the day jumping of the bluff above the cave. (WHICH IS BEAUTIFUL). HARDY & SHERRI , are the nicest people I have ever met. We enjoyed hanging out with them. Thens there's PIG PIG , she's is sassy and sweet. She did end up with apples in oranges. We took her cheese balls for a treat and she loved them. She even let me pet her and take pictures. The tipi is a great place to stay its was so comfortable. I highly recommend this. Its so much fun.

This place was everything I was looking for in a good camping experience - with the exception of the torrential down pour and the raging waters. The first day we were able to play and see the beauty of this very hidden gem. The kids loved the tipi and it held up very well in the storms. It's the first place that has allowed us to be able to bring our dog and let him run. The first day we had so much fun and couldn't wait to play in the water.....but that all changed pretty fast. I do hope we get the chance to go back in better weather!!! My experience was really only good because of the weather and a few other very unfortunate events due to mother nature but excellent because it had everything I was looking for in a beautiful environment for primitive camping. I would highly suggest four wheel drive to anyone wanting to stay here!!! I truly hope we make it back one day.

My girlfriends and I wanted a quick getaway and when I saw the Tipi, I knew that was our place. It is such an incredible little private camp site, complete with multiple swings, a grill and a prep table, lots of seating and a huge fire pit! Would be perfect for a little family weekend retreat or even a honeymoon! The host was amazing and he helped us build our fires both nights- he was so fun and helpful. The swimming hole is beautiful and we decided we want to come back when it is warmer so we can swim all day! Would recommend to anyone looking for a primitive, fun getaway! The ladies at Ivy Vacations were also 5 stars- quick on communication and really thorough in taking care of guests. Will be using them again for vacation rentals.
